Oh no! My baby is too old for a newborn photoshooot now. What do I do?
First things first – take a deep breath. Your baby is not too old for beautiful photos. In fact, let me share a little secret with you: my absolute favourite age to photograph babies is actually between four months and just under one year. Yes, you read that right. If you missed the newborn stage, you’ve landed in one of the best windows for capturing incredible images.
Why? Because older babies are wonderfully interactive. They smile, they giggle, they lock eyes with you and with my camera. They’re full of personality, with the kind of cheeky expressions and gummy grins that make your heart burst. They’ve also got those irresistible baby rolls: chubby arms, squishy thighs, round little tummies, and they’re not shy about showing them off. Whether they’re mastering tummy time, sitting up on their own, or clapping for the very first time, this stage is packed with milestones that are an absolute joy to photograph. If you’ve been searching “Is my baby too old for newborn pictures?” or “when to photograph baby”, rest assured, now is the perfect time.
What should my baby wear to the photoshoot?
There are so many baby clothes in the shops, it’s tempting to buy her a frilly dress or him a tiny shirts and jeans for the photoshoot. Don’t do it. Celebrate the baby-ness. They’ll be in dresses and jeans before you know it, and this baby window is so fleeting that we want to preserve every soft, squishy moment.
Keep their outfits simple, think plain short-sleeve bodysuits or soft onesies. These let us show off the chubby arms and roly-poly legs that make this age so irresistible. Avoid “big kid” clothes that hide those baby rolls or make them look older than they are. The goal is to highlight everything that makes them unmistakably, adorably, wonderfully baby.

Step 2: Pick a time that your baby is the happiest. Most babies are happiest in the mornings, but some babies are the happiest in the afternoon after a long midday nap. So pick the time that suits your baby best. If your baby's nap schedule changes between the session booking and the photo day, you can click on your booking link to reschedule, or simply reach out to see if I can accommodate session time changes. Happy baby = smooth photo session = great photos!
